Minerals in my Meal

Fun Forces
In this activity, students will develop an understanding that humans, plants, and animals have common physical needs. Specifically, students will explore the food needs of humans, plants, and animals that are required for survival. They will explore the common nutritional value in various foods of living things.
Topic: Properties of Matter
Real World Science Topics:
  • An overview of elements required for survival for all living things
  • An overview of the food requirement by living things
  • An evaluation of the commonalities of minerals and nutrients found in foods for humans, plants, and animals
After completing this activity, students should be able to discuss the common needs of all living things. They will be able to describe specifically how all foods provide vitamins and minerals that aid plants, humans, and animals in their survival. They will be able to compare and contrast the differences in some of the foods that all living things use.
