Mystery Matter

In this activity, students will become familiar with the term matter. They will learn the three states of matter as well as the characteristics of each. They will describe and classify different kinds of materials by their observable properties.
Topic: Properties of Matter
Real World Science Topics:
  • An overview of the three states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases.
  • An evaluation of the varying traits of matter.
  • A comparison of the unique characteristics within each state of matter.
After completing this activity, students should be able to define matter along with each of the three states of matter. They should be able to identify the traits of each type of matter and classify. They should be able to give several examples of each state of matter.
